Al trained as an actor at the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama (1985–88). He then worked professionally in National, Repertory, Touring, West End, Off West End, Fringe and Educational theatre across the UK, Europe and the United States for over thirty years. Al has performed in a wide variety of theatre productions, in classical plays, Shakespearean adaptations, modern comedies, social commentaries, political dramas, new writing, workshop/devised productions, rock musical, musicals and pantomime.

 Al’s extensive Television credits include: Captive, Passport to Murder, Witness, The Double Life of George Michael, Nightdare, The Enemy Within, Autopsy, Eastenders, Casualty, Conquest, All the Rage, Soldier Soldier, Van Der Valk, Inspector Alleyn Mysteries, Screenplay: A Safe House, Moon and Son, The Boland Show, Men at Arms, The Bill and Lovejoy.

 Most recently, Al has appeared as Robert Kissel in Passport to Murder for Sky Television, Pierre Korkie in hostage series Captive, produced by Doug Liman (Bourne Series) for Netflix, and played the Interrogation Cop in award winning director Marcus Flemmings’ feature film Blonde Purple.

 Al has appeared in some of the biggest global commercial campaigns, namely Nike, Walkers Crisps and COI Government films and worked for many global commercial companies; Ridley Scott Associates Films - 'Elephant': Rear Seat Belts Campaign (1993-96), Independent Films 'Nike - Write the Future' FIFA World Cup (2010), and Walkers Crisps Choose the Flavour UK (2008/9) with Gary Lineker. The Nike World Cup commercial starred Wayne Rooney and was directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, and one of the most expensive commercials ever made.

 Corporate films

Al has worked extensively in corporate films for over twenty five years. He has worked for many global companies including: Volvo, PWC, Ford, Barclays Bank, Santander, KPMG, Bank America, Royal Sun Alliance, Polygram, Transworld, Transworld Publishers, Penguin, Boots, Gillette, Shell, NTL, Kaisen Consulting, ISL, BP, Department of Transport, BFC, Astrazeneca, Jaguar UK, Doree Bonner, Deliverers UK Ltd, Mastercard, British Airways, BGL Group, Barnardo's, 3M, Britvic, Axa, Stena Line, Warner Hotels, National Rail.

Stage Combat

 Al trained in stage fighting at Rose Bruford. With tutors Mike Loades and John Waller, he obtained his certificate in stage combat in his final year from Henry Marshall. After college, Al's enthusiasm for stage combat continued and he incorporated the skills into a number of his television and theatre appearances, and obtaining his advanced certificate in stage combat (multiple weaponry - broadsword, quarterstaff, epee, sabre, unarmed combat and firearms), from Steve Wilsher at the Welsh College of Speech and Drama. Since then, Al has worked with Fight Directors - Jonathan Shelley, (ex East 15/Artistic Director of Workswell Productions), Tim Klotz (Young Blood), Mike Loades, Derek Ware and Peter Woodward.  

 Al has appeared in various theatre, television, film and commercials where he has performed in a variety of stage combats, sword fighting and even stunt work: eg; Twelfth Night (Oddsocks UK Tour), Plague of God (Nottingham Playhouse), The Brockley Jack (Bridge Lane/Tour), Tolomeo (Broomhill Opera), Blow by Blow (Director - Mike Loades), Lovejoy (Witzend/BBC), The Bill (ITV), Blonde Purple ( (Elephant: Rear Seat Belts DOT Commercial (RSA Films).

 Between 2002-5, Al appeared in Malvolio's Revenge, Kill the Messenger and Alas Poor Yorick at the Everyman Theatre/Cheltenham for Workswell Productions, which tours challenging, Shakespearean/historical influenced plays, with a specialist emphasis on both stage combat and physical theatre. Al worked with the Fight Directors Jonathan Shelley and Tim Klotz in these productions. In Television, Al has appeared in Men at Arms (Tripal/Greystone) and the US Television series Conquest (History Channel/Greystone) as a member of Peter Woodward's highly skilled fight team. Most recently, Al has directed the stage combats for open air productions of Romeo and Juliet and Treasure Island in the Jephson Gardens, Leamington, and Monsieur Venus and Edmond at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket.
